It was a nice sunny day 🧡

Eid Al Fitr is one of the most celebrated festivals among the Islam Community. This day is the end of a one-month-long day of fasting, which is celebrated with family and friends with a sumptuous meal. Eid al-Fitr always falls on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month according to the Islamic calendar. The Islamic Community believed that the Holy Quran was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad during the month of Ramadan. So, Muslims consider this a holy month and hold fast from dawn to dusk and dedicate themselves to praying to Allah. Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of this month.

This year Eid Al-Fitr or the festival of breaking fast was celebrated on the 3rd of May,2022, which marks the completion of the fasting holy month of Ramzan. In India (irrespective of what the media portrays😩), we common men celebrate every festival together. It is a festival for us and of us. There is at least one grand feast every month, owing to the diverse community we live within.

So here goes my Eid Al Fitr Day story!

Our friend Nawreen invited us (of course on our forceful request 😏), to her place on the 5th of May. This was the first time all of us were home along with her. Me, Piyali, Sangita and Juri were ready to visit. All of us resided within 20 minutes' journey from her residence. So, at around 12:30 pm we decided to visit her house together.

It was so nice to see Nawreen after such a long time. The rest of us just met each other last month. We were given a nice warm welcome by Nawreen’s mother and grandmother, with a glass of fresh orange juice 🍹.

Nawreen's cousin, Adil (who was in the first standard) was even more excited to see us. He individually took our introductory interviews about our name, age, and home address right after we arrived at her place 😂. We too enjoyed giving him gibberish answers, to which he got repeatedly irritated 👻. We gave him some chocolates we bought to keep him busy and finally the five of us started our stories 🤝.

Nawreen bought the first starter dish, which had cakes, sweets, and Dahi Bara. Dahi Bara is a famous Indian Dish consisting of balls made from ground lentils, which are deep-fried and served in a yogurt sauce. Sweets too were made by them at their residence. They self prepare a variety of sweets and cakes on this day.

The Starter 🧁 and Nawreen being the nice host

Being a person who prefers salty food or a (Supertaster ?), I just loved the Dahi Bara more. I do not have a sweet tooth 🍫 at all.

After this, we had some “self-claimed spicy chips” which were not at all spicy 😒.

Piyali shared how their family consumed chili at an extreme level (like really extreme, I am sure half of the people reading this will not be able to consume that ) and how the rest of us preferred less chili, especially the raw ones.

Next came our main dish or lunch for us, which was chicken gravy and pulao. Nawreen is a ‘vegetarian’ who consumes everything except meat 🤷‍♀️. She took eggs instead with the pulao. The desert was sewain, which was one of the essential or main dishes they prepare during Eid celebrations. Chicken Pulao is also very commonly prepared during this festival.

Both the dishes were so delicious 💛. It was prepared by Nawreen’s mother and trust me Nawreen would never have prepared any better 😂.

After having it all, we were extremely sleepy. And? We slept of course 🥱. We had a very long conversation about just any random topic from person to place that popped up in our minds.

We even spoke about our lives and our priorities and insecurities. Just everything you want to keep it safe. By now you must realize how close we were to each other. We formed this group in our seventh grade and are being loyal to the friendship since then. It is a special relationship that has just grown stronger over years.

All of us belong to different communities and at least celebrate one distinct festival each, however, we are always ready to try each other's distinct food and cultures.

Anyways, it was already evening and we all had several engagements after 5:30 pm and hence had to leave early.

But!

Ofcourse, we will take some photographs of this special day. Nawreen too was insisting, that we take a single nice photo of hers as she did not have one nice photo from her Eid 😪.

Pretty Nawreen with her nice single photo 🚫

And then us, the people on the second priority list👏.

No no, we are not this tall 🤣. It's just the camera that made us look taller.
I had a good hair day 🙈, hence these photos

Finally, we saw some nearby areas near Nawreens residence and left for home by 5 pm.

It was a short and sweet meetup of us after a long time 🦋 and for a long time. 🐣.
